DIY: Secret Compartment Book Tutorial

We all need a secret little spot to hide our treasures. Whether it is jewelry, candy you want all to yourself, money or other trinkets, this secret compartment book will do the trick.
I made this secret book a few months ago, stuffed some goodies inside and displayed it in plain sight. No one even bothered to look at the book. Success!

I am going to show you how to make your own book.

Step 1. Start with a hard covered book and cover the front and back covers with plastic.

Step 2. Glue the pages together by using Mod Podge (or glue) and a brush. Make sure to smooth out any bubbles. Place a heavy weight on top so the pages will stay together while the glue dries.

Step 3. Once the glue has dried, draw your pattern. I started on the first page but you can skip a few pages to make it extra secret.
Step 4. Use a utility knife to cut along the line. This will take awhile. For cleaner lines only cut a few pages at a time. Add more glue after the pages are cut if needed.
And now you have a secret place to hide your goodies.

What would you hide in a secret compartment book?

  2. This is such a cool idea! I have no idea what I would hide in a compartment book. I'll have to think about that.

  3. This is too cute. So Husband's house burnt down while he was on his mission. All his high school treasures (and everything else!) are gone. I discovered that I could buy his class ring (they keep the order on file forever...) and I did. I wanted to surprise him so with it so I did this same thing to a dictionary! It was the only thing fat enough to fit the ring box in. It was such a fun way to give the gift! Now I'm going to make one to hide my glasses in on my night stand so my kids won't break them (again...).

    Such a cute idea!

  4. Nicely done. I have some fake books and they look fake. I need to find some vintage books at D.I. and do this so they blend in better. I pinned this on Pinterest too as I love book crafts!

  5. This is a great idea for a craft project for our upcoming Vacation Bible School as each of our students will be an "Agency D3 Detective". Each student will need their own 'detective case' to carry their 'detective glasses', a pencil and paper. Are there any suggestions on how this can be done on a large scale basis with regards to obtaning ~ 125 books, etc.? Thanks!

  6. <3 this! I think we're going to use this for our VBS (Agency D3) in October. Checking out yard sales for cheap books. :D
