Turkey Rice and Kale Soup

Hello! I'm Raia, and I blog over at Raia's Recipes, where I share all my gluten-free creations. Today I'm happy to be sharing a recipe combining two of my favorite things with you: leftovers and soup...Leftovers have always been a favorite of mine. No joke. ;) Maybe it's the frugal side of me finding joy in seeing that nothing goes to waste, or maybe it's the tired mom side being glad that I don't have to think about what's for dinner. Plus, sitting in the fridge gives all the flavors more time to blend. :) My leftover-love always comes in handy around Thanksgiving, since every year my family seems to end up with a fridge-load of leftover turkey... even if we spent the holiday with friends. I'm pretty sure we're not the only Americans who face this issue. ;)  This hearty, comfort-food soup is a wonderful way to use up leftover turkey after the holidays. Serve it up with a side of tasty cranberry sauce (my family devours my Cinnamon Cranberry Chutney) and you've got a great meal all ready for you!
And by the way, soup is excellent leftover... ;)  

Turkey, Rice & Kale Soup
 3 qt. water
1 qt. stock/broth
2 c. brown rice 1 yellow onion, diced
4 carrots, coined or diced
1-2 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 t. basil
1/2 t. oregano
1 c. frozen kale
2 c. cooked turkey, chopped or shredded

In a large stock pot, bring water and stock/broth to a boil. Add rice and reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Chop the carrots and onion. After 20 minutes is up, add carrots, onions, herbs, salt and pepper, and boil for 20 more minutes, adding more water or stock if necessary to keep it a soup/stew consistency. When time is up, check to see if the rice and carrots are done. Boil a little longer if necessary. When carrots and rice are tender, stir in the turkey and kale. Let it sit about 5 minutes to lightly cook the kale and warm up the turkey. Serve with leftover cranberry sauce on the side.

 Every year when I was little, my grandmother would set up a kids table for all the grand kids at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We would all sit around and wait for dinner to be served. I would have loved having a coloring and puzzle page to color while I waited for dinner to start.  So for my kiddos this year I made them a coloring place mat.  Just like the kids get when you go to a restaurant.  I added this adorable turkey crayon holder for the table decorations and voile. Your kids table is ready for those hungry kids!

Autumn Pinecone-Twig Mouse

Hi there! My name is Natashia and I am coming to you from TheMumsyBlog.com to share this fun festive and simply adorable craft with you. Over at TheMumsyBlog we love to share holiday ideas, especially the ones that save you moolah and are fun! So today I am sharing how to make an Autumn Pinecone-Twig Mouse.  Stick this little guy on your mantle or on your Thanksgiving table. He is sure to delight and bring smiles.

What you need (to make 1 mouse):

- pinecone

- thin sticks or twigs

- hot glue gun and glue sticks

- thin cardboard or burlap paper (as pictured available at Joanns )

- Brown felt

- scissors

- beads, buttons, or acorns for the eyes

- hand trimmer (optional)

- ruler (optional)

How to make it:

1. Using your cardboard or burlap paper cut a circle to create the nose of the mouse.  I made mine around four inches but you may need to adjust yours according to the size of the pinecone. The size needs to be able to be about the size of the larger end of your pinecone.

2. Cut a line from the edge to the center as pictured.

3. Shape the cone by sliding the edge over the top of the other edge. Continue sliding until the circle has taken a cone shape.

4. Secure the cone with some hot glue.

5. Gather your small twigs and trim them to be slightly longer than the radius of your cone.  I varied my lengths slightly for a more natural look in opposed to all the twigs being the exact same length.

 6. Start gluing the twigs around the cone.

7. Glue on whatever materials you chose for the eyes. I used large black beads.

8. Trim the twigs if needed.

9. Cut the four feet shapes out of felt in preparation for step 10 . I made them with three little bumps for the toes but you could change them or just cut circles.

10. Glue the feet on one side of the pinecone which will become the body of the Pinecone mouse.

11. Cut out the ears from the felt creating two small tear shaped pieces.

12. Glue the ears on the head of the mouse on the edge of the cone. Pinch the bottom towards the head and add glue for a folded effect as pictured.

13. Glue the head onto the more larger and flat part of the pinecone. Be sure to align the top of the head opposite of the feet.

14. Use one last twig for the tail.

And there you have it! I know there seems like a lot of supplies but this craft literally took me 15 minutes.  Isn't the mouse so cute?! I thought the natural woodland feel was super fun for this fall season. And you can dress it up for Christmas too. Add a plaid ribbon around his neck and he can stay for all the holidays. Yippee! Thanksgiving Turkey Banner

Thanksgiving decorations do not need to be difficult or expensive to make.This super Thanksgiving Turkey Banner is such a cute addition your holiday decor. Plus this is a no-sew project. While I like to sew, sometimes the no-sew projects are kind of the best. Especially during the holidays.

The list of things you need is easy to find and really inexpensive. You will need:

 paint chip cards

yarn

hot glue

Gather up some paint chip cards in turkey colors.

Cut an inch off the top of the brown cards.

Cut the color cards into thirds. The colors I chose for the tail were turquoise, red, yellow, and orange.

Gather the tail strips into a fan.

Run hot glue in a line on the back of the brown card. Press the fanned out tail cards onto the glue.

Cut out triangles for the beak.

Glue them on.

Choose a coordinating yarn.

Place the yarn over the back of the card and then run a line of glue directly over the yarn. When the glue dries the turkey will be attached to the yarn. Repeat until all the turkeys are glued to the yarn.

Once the glue dries, your turkey banner is ready to hang.

Seriously, how stinking cute are these turkeys?!!

I love the fun colors and I am kind of loving how they will look next to a super cute and festive kids table.

Give Thanks Cookies

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great Fall. So far it's been beautiful here in Pennsylvania.

I wanted to first introduce myself.  My name is Hani and write a blog called Haniela's and in addition to my blog I also have a  You Tube Channel  where I share videos how to decorate cookies, cupcakes, cakes and other treats.  Recently I launched my new Recipe Series, sharing tested recipes that  I absolutely love. One of those recipes is Sugar Cookie Recipe.  It has become a staple in my kitchen. 

Thanksgiving is around the corner and I wanted to make some simple yet pretty cookies for the holiday. I made Sugar Cookies and using a simple alphabet impression tool I stamped "GIVE THANKS" on each cookie. To make them little more special and even more delicious and coated back of the cookies with chocolate. I hope you'll give these a try.

Give Thanks Sugar Cookies for Thanksgiving,  using Alphabet Impression Set

To  make these cookies you need:

Pumpkin Cookie Cutter

Sugar Cookie Dough((don't use baking powder in the recipe if using for this project)

 or you can also use delicious Linzer Cookie Dough

Small Alphabet Cookie/Fondant Impression Set

Merkens  Dark  Chocolate Candy Melts

butter knife to spread the chocolate

Wax paper

GIVE THANKS  SUGAR COOKIES (you should get about 30+cookies, depending on the size of the cookie cutter you use,  to get the full "give thanks" on the cookies. Use 3 inch cutter)

3 cups (450grams) all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder ( in this project, omit the baking powder)

1/4 tsp kosher salt

2 sticks (1cup, 226grams)butter, unsalted, softened to room temperature

1 cup (200grams)granulated sugar

1 large egg, room temperature

1tbl vanilla extract, vanilla bean past or almond extract

Flavor options: I also like to use lemon zest with combination of vanilla extract or lemon extract, or orange zest.

• Sift together flour,  add salt, set aside.
• In a small dish whisk together egg and vanilla extract, set aside.
• In a mixing bowl cream together room temperature butter and sugar, about 5 minutes, scrape the bowl twice. Butter creamed with sugar  should be light and fluffy.
• Gradually add vanilla egg mixture, beating anywhere from 30 seconds to minute until well mixed in.
• Now gradually in 3 additions add flour. Lower the speed of your mixer to low. Scrape the bowl well after the last addition and beat just until flour is combined.
• Scrape the cookie dough into a large bowl, and using your hands knead the cookie dough  for about 30 to 60 seconds, until dough comes together.
• Wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight(8hours) or minimum 4hours.
• Preheat oven to 375F(190C)
• Divide cookie dough in half. Roll one half of the cookie dough into about 1/4 inch thick, between 2 pieces of parchment paper using rolling guides on each side of the dough.(1 painter's stick on each side)
• Cut out as many cookies as you can. Place the cookies on a light colored baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
• Using the Alphabet Impression Set, thread "GIVE THANKS" into the track and press it into each cookie.
• Chill the cut outs in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
• Bake for 9minutes, depending on the oven, you want the cookie to be crispy. If they get little golden on the bottom it is fine.
• Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, transfer to cooling rack and let cool completely.
• Line a tray with wax paper.
• Melt the Chocolate Candy Melts according to the directions on the packaging
• Spread some melted chocolate  on the back of the cookies, then place the cookie chocolate side down onto the wax paper and gently press down. Repeat.
• Let chocolate harden for 10-15 minutes.
• Then peel off the cookies from the wax paper. You should have a very thin layer of chocolate covering the bottom of the cookies.
• Store in the airtight container for up to 2 weeks, between pieces of wax paper in a large airtight container, until ready to use.
• You can simple wrap couple of these in a clear bag and give one to each of your guests   at Thanksgiving Table

And now to learn how to make these festive glitter adorned party glasses.

To make your glitter adorned party glasses you will need:
Mod Podge
Glitter
Paint brush
Party glasses

I picked up the party glasses at my local dollar store for a dollar each.

 Step 1. Paint a thin coat of Mod Podge on your glasses where you want the glitter adornment.

Step 2. Cover the Mod Podged area with glitter. It helps to keep the glitter in a jar or bowl so it can be completely emerged.

Step 3. Let dry.

Step 4. Paint over the glitter with Mod Podge and let dry. This will seal in the glitter.
