DIY Kids Olympic Torch Craft

I can not even tell you how much Brody loves doing little arts and crafts projects. It was probably brought on from preschool. I am always trying to come up with quick simple projects that we can do together. I figured since the Olympics is just around the corner he would like o make a little Olympic torch. It only took about two minutes and we just used supplies we had around the house.

Supplies:
Aluminum foil
Cardboard roll (from toilet paper or paper towel)
Red, yellow and orange tissue paper (we didn't have orange but I would add it in)
Scissors
Step 1. Cover the cardboard roll with aluminum foil

Step2. Cut the end of tissue paper to look like flames
Step 3. Twist flames together and push halfway through base of torch

Easy right? With my two babies keeping me busy we have to keep our craft project simple so this was perfect for us and Brody loves it.

Twins: 11 Months

It's that time of the month again, time for another update on Sadie and Sammy. My sweet babies are 11 months old!

Sadie has 6 teeth
She learned how to make clicking noises with her mouth

Sammy has 3 teeth
she thinks it's funny to growl

Both girls are really close to walking, like playing peekaboo and are still taking two naps a day.
They eat just about everything we feed them. They are usually found playing side by side. They love stealing each others binkies or toys.  They sit on their knees a lot and I think it super cute :)

They love their daddy and cry most mornings when he leaves for work. Sadie and Sammy think Brody is about the funniest person they know.

You can follow me on Instagram to see more pictures of the girls, Brody and  what I am up to.

DIY Kids Sewing Card

Sewing cards are the perfect quiet project for kids. They are a great thing to add to your church bag or just keep at home. Plus I love the concentration  kids put into them and they are awesome for hand eye coordination.

I made Brody this car sewing card using supplies I had a round the house.
You will need:
Car template
Heavy cardstock or cardboard
Pencil
Hole punch
Scissors
Yarn, twin or thin ribbon
Tape

First start by printing the car template or any other design you choose. You can print it on to the cardstock or trace it on to heavier paper or cardboard then cut out.

Next take your hole punch and punch holes around the edge of the car. Just make sure to space them evenly apart and not too close to the edge. I did mine free hand so they aren't perfect :)

Next take your yarn or string and wrap some tape around the edge so it won't fray.
And now you can begin sewing!

Project Organize My LIfe: Boot Camp

Remember when I started Project Organize My Life last year? Well it got pushed to the side when I found out I was pregnant with twins and the birth of them pushed it even farther to the back of my mind. I decided it was time to get back to Project Organize My Life.

I decided the best way to get started again was to try out the Buttoned Up Boot Camp. The program is designed to really help you gain control over your life and get organized. Every day there is a new task and steps to help you accomplish them. There are many different levels in the Boot Camp, you can go it alone like I did but if you really need the extra help and accountability Buttoned Up also offers one on one coaching. Check out the program plan here.

http://buttonedupbootcamp.com/I loved not having to think about what I needed to do to get organized, Buttoned Up thought of it all for me and made the plan, all I had to do was log in in each morning and do the task they assigned. Easy.

If you are struggling to get organized or just need a little boost, I suggest trying Buttoned Ups Boot Camp

For more posts on Project Organize My Life go here

I was provided with free access to Buttoned Up Boot Camp but all opinions are my own.

Reading List

Here is my latest list of books I have read recently. I wish I could find more time to read but I just can't. Eventually I will be able to read more.

The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
When a white servant girl violates the order of plantation society, she unleashes a tragedy that exposes the worst and best in the people she has come to call her family.
Orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the master’s illegitimate daughter, Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adopted family, though she is set apart from them by her white skin. Eventually, Lavinia is accepted into the world of the big house, where the master is absent and the mistress battles opium addiction. Lavinia finds herself perilously straddling two very different worlds. When she is forced to make a choice, loyalties are brought into question, dangerous truths are laid bare, and lives are put at risk.

This tragic story drew me in right away and I loved the characters. If you are like me and like historical fiction you will enjoy this book.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

I am not big into young adult series but I could not put this book down! I can't wait to see what happens next.

On Littler Wings by Regina Sirois
Jennifer is an only child, and so were her parents—at least that's what she thinks, until she finds an old photo in the back of one of her mother's books. The woman in the photo looks just like Jennifer, down to the smattering of freckles across her nose. And her mother refuses to talk about it.
Compelled to find answers, Jennifer embarks on a quest that takes her from the wheat fields of Nebraska to the fishing town of Smithport, Maine, home to the one person who can help her solve this family secret—the woman in the photo. But Jennifer learns that it takes the entire village of Smithport to piece together the story of her mother's hidden past.
This was an endearing book that dug deeper than the young adult novel it claims to be. I really enjoyed reading this one.

What books have you been reading?
