Stuffed Bunny and Free Pattern

Easter may be a few days away, but there is still time to make one of these sweet little stuffed bunnies for them for Easter. My kids love their stuffed bunnies, even Sadie and Sammy sleep with theirs from last year.
My mother in law is sharing her pattern for the bunnies so you can make your own.

All you have to do is download your free stuffed bunny pattern and instructions.
Of course if you don't feel like making them, my mother in law sells them in her Etsy shop.

Spring Time Bingo

I'm so excited to be here! I'm Krista and I blog over at While He Was Napping. It's been my little corner of the blogosphere since 2010. I have three little boys that keep me busy and a husband that keeps me sane and grounded. I am usually wading around in a sea of Tonka trucks, Thomas trains and Hot Wheels. While He Was Napping is my little island in that sea of testosterone where I get to escape into fun recipes, kid's activities, digital design and maybe even a sprinkle of glitter.

It's been getting warmer around here and the trees are even starting to blossom. This is my favorite time of year in the desert. Everything is pretty and green... well, there's a little more green and a little less brown. The temperatures aren't so high that you have to stay inside during the day; the evenings are a nice mix of chilly and just right while the mornings are just brisk enough to make you grateful for the sunshine. Spring. I think this is probably my kids' favorite time of the year too. We get to play outside: ride bikes, go to the park, eat ice cream on the porch swing. We are gearing up for Spring Break and I can't wait to have less structure in our lives for a few days to just enjoy this gorgeous spring. springtime bingo We also love games. So, to combine two of our favorite things of the moment, I made up a game for my kiddos. Spring Bingo. We've been playing it the last couple days and it's perfect for my 3 and 5.5 year olds. Because it's picture matching, my 3 year old can play by himself and my 5 year old still enjoys the game too. Spring Bingo If you would like to get your own copy of the Spring Bingo game, you can download the PDF, save it to your computer and then print. The files are formatted to 8.5x11" and you'll need Adobe Reader to access them. Don't worry it's free and you can download it if you don't have it already. There are three different game board styles and a sheet of bingo cards. Print all the pages, cut the cards apart (laminate them, if you want) and then find some fun markers to use. We used cheerios and my boys played for about 20 mins in an endless version of the game. They loved it!

Sweet Orange Julius

One of my favorite spring (and summer) drinks is Orange Julius. I remember making this sweet Orange Julius as a kid and sitting in the warm sun drinking it. It is so easy to make and of course I love how sweet it tastes.

Orange Julius Recipe

1 can of frozen orange juice concentrate
6-8 ice cubes
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Blend in a blender until ice is completely crushed and has a smooth consistency.

Enjoy!

*You can change the consistency by altering the water with out affecting the flavor too much.

Bloom Where You Are Planted Sign

Hey Everyone! This is Summer from Summer Scraps and I am so excited to be here today! Over on my blog you can find all kinds of crafts and recipe ideas. Today I am get to share a Spring idea with you. Spring is here and one of my favorite things about Spring time is the flowers! I love the phrase "Bloom where you are planted". So I thought this would be the perfect time of year to create a sign using this phrase.

Bloom where you are planted

Supplies Needed:

  • Scrap Wood – I used 2×2 wood scraps (7 boards are 15″ and 2 boards are 10″).
  • 14 – 1 1/4″ screws – I predrilled the holes and then put the screws in to make sure the wood did not crack.
  • White paint
  • Flower Stencil - you can buy one or make one
  • Red and orange spray paint
  • Vinyl that says “Bloom where you are planted”
  • Tape
  • Scrap paper
Okay let’s get started! First Cut/sand your wood. Line up the 15-inch wood pieces as shown in the picture below. Screw in the two shorter pieces to add stability.

Flip your sign over and paint it white, let dry.
Once dry, tape down your flower stencil on the wood. I placed paper around the edges to make sure excess spray paint didn’t get anywhere else on the wood.
So I wanted my flower to be red with a pop of orange in the middle. So first I used the orange spray paint and I lightly sprayed around the middle section.
Next I used the red spray paint and lightly sprayed over the rest of the stencil. I lost a bit of the orange so I gave the middle a quick spray of orange in the center again.
Then I carefully removed the stencil and let it dry.
I did the words in black vinyl. I used the Brush Script font (in case you are wondering). Add your vinyl words and you’re done!
Perfect for a nice spring day, right? If you like this idea you will probably want to see how I made these cute Bunny Cupcake Toppers Bunny-cupcake-toppers

Reading List

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's debut novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel. once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades. but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol." "This simple act takes Henry back to the 1940s, when his world was a jumble of confusion and excitement, and to his father. who was obsessed with the war in China and having Henry grow up American.

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
Fifteen-year-old Lina is a Lithuanian girl living an ordinary life—until Soviet officers invade her home and tear her family apart. Separated from her father and forced onto a crowded train, Lina, her mother, and her young brother make their way to a Siberian work camp, where they are forced to fight for their lives. Lina finds solace in her art, documenting these events by drawing. Risking everything, she imbeds clues in her drawings of their location and secretly passes them along, hoping her drawings will make their way to her father's prison camp. But will strength, love, and hope be enough for Lina and her family to survive?

Dear Miss Breed by Joanne Oppenheim
A chronicle of the incredible correspondence between California librarian Clara Breed and young Japanese American internees during World War II.
In the early 1940's, Clara Breed was the children's librarian at the San Diego Public Library. But she was also friend to dozens of Japanese American children and teens when war broke out in December of 1941. The story of what happened to these American citizens is movingly told through letters that her young friends wrote to Miss Breed during their internment. This remarkable librarian and humanitarian served as a lifeline to these imprisoned young people, and was brave enough to speak out against a shameful chapter in American history.

Looks like I have been on a World War Two reading kick doesn't it? I really found myself drawn to the both Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and Between Shades of Gray. They both gave me a little insight to parts of World War Two that I didn't know much about (Japanese internment camps and the Soviet Union) and the stories felt so real, which led me to Dear Miss Breed where I was able to read actual letters from the children who were imprisoned because of their Japanese ancestry during that time. It was a slow read but insightful.
