It's Just Another Stylin' Sunday

I was so excited for Brody to wear this houndstooth suit today! It was his uncle Johnny's suit.
It's still a little big and it would look better with white knee socks but I couldn't wait for him to wear it.

Give Thanks- Craftaholic anonymous

Hi there! I'm stoked to be on Whatever Dee Dee Wants today! Thanks for having me over to play, Dianna! Today I am going to share how to make a simple fall wall hanging.

This is one of those great projects that the kids can help with too! They can help you round up pine cones from the backyard. Or if you're like me, I had fun digging through the leaves to find mine.

Supplies
  • 7 Pine Cones, cleaned off (you can do more if you want)
  • Ribbon, cut into seven 18" strips and one 6" strip (I used 5/8" ribbon)
  • Frame (mine is an 11"x14")
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Take each pine cone and put a dot of glue on the top.

And press ribbon in place. Leave about 3" over hang. You can trim it later if you don't like the look or want a shorter over hang.

Then arrange and stagger your pine cones so that they hang at different lengths. Determine how far you want them to hang down (measuring with your frame) and pinch the ribbon at your chosen length.

Now take your 6" strip of ribbon and wrap it around the ribbon and tie a knot. Then trim your ribbon as necessary.

To hang your pine cones, hammer a pin or tiny nail through the ribbon and into the wall right below the knot. Be sure to catch all the ribbon strands with the pin/nail.You'll probably want to arrange your pine cones a little. Mine got jumbled in the hanging process. After you have your pine cones situated, hang your frame. I found it was easier that way, than trying to redo the pine cones if I hung the frame wrong.

I just love this simple wall hanging! So simple, so gorgeous!

*note: my pine cones are closed in this picture, but they opened a couple days later. And it looks a lot cooler!*

Lauralee from Yellowmums

Giving thanks makes me happy. So I'm glad we celebrate Thanksgiving even if I do often overlook it in my haste to get to Christmas! But, I'm trying to slow down this year, and be grateful we have Thanksgiving ;) Here's my top five "thanks" list:

my Savior
family
ability to create
chocolate
yellow

And since I'm so grateful I can create things I'm sharing some with you! I've created some free printable 5.5 x 4.25 inch cards and 2.75 x 3.75 inch place cards for you!

Just print them on letter size card stock. For the cards cut them in half and fold each, for the place cards use the crop marks to cut them in fourths and fold each in half. Enjoy!

Give Thanks- Holiday Green Beans

By Sarah of Redhead Recipes

I love Thanksgiving. I love being with friends and family. I love listening to people express gratitude that may some other time be suppressed. And I, of course, love good food.
Last year we celebrated Thanksgiving with my in-laws. They make the traditional delicious food. Of course I was asked to make my Dinner Rolls I offered to make something as well (mostly because I was starting to think my in-laws only thought I could make rolls). I was assigned the green bean casserole. You know, the typical with the sauce and the fried onions. I love that dish, but decided to go a fresher root. Thanksgiving has so many rich dishes that I needed a veggie that kept its freshness. I was truly thankful last year for this recipe. It was the perfect balance of freshness but still felt like the holidays. I think my family enjoyed it too - I got more compliments on my beans than I did my rolls!
These have now become a favorite in our house. Not just for the holidays, but anytime I want something extra with my beans.

Holiday Green Beans
1 lb bag frozen green beans
1 small onion, chopped
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cup apple juice or cider
salt and pepper
1/4 cup dried cranberries

Microwave your green beans, covered for about 5 minutes. Uncover and microwave for 3 to 7 more minutes until desired tenderness. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Meanwhile, in a small frying pan, saute onion in the olive oil until just caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add apple juice and increase heat to about medium high and simmer until reduced and syrupy.
Toss sauce over beans. Garnish with cranberries.

*I don't usually use the french cut green beans, but I accidentally bought them this time. It's still just as good.
*If you want an extra layer of crunch, add toasted almonds to the garnish.

It's Just Another Stylin' Sunday

Brody got a haircut this week.
I love his church hair. That's what we call it when it's combed all nice.

We love that Brody is fitting into his cousin Alex's old coat this year.
it's a little big but we think it's cute.

This is what Brody looks like when he done taking pictures.

Give Thanks- What to Wear to Thanksgiving Dinner

Melissa from I Still Love You

I come from a family where we dressed up to go to the mall. No sweatpants or ripped jeans were allowed. Those were only reserved for grubby yard work & dirty hikes up the mountains. I still love to dress up for Holidays like Thanksgiving. It gives me an excuse to bust out the mascara. Here are a few rules I like to abide by that make my turkey munching pleasant & fashionable:

Black vs. Brown - Thanksgiving is such an earth-toned holiday. Why not match? I like to wear browns & neutrals with a little kick of color.

Fit to Flatter - As much as I try not to over eat, I usually do. Thanksgiving I like to wear comfortable slacks, skirts (with cozy tights) or jeggings to prepare for any expanding that occurs. It's also nice to dress comfortably in preparation for the post-feast siesta. I've found awesome jeggings at H&M & Walmart (LEI - $12). They're great for any expanding belly.

Casual to formal - I'm surely not going to wear a formal dress to a casual Thanksgiving dinner. So if I'm not sure what kind of dinner crowd I'm going to be in, I like to mix the high & low. Mix a skirt with flats, jeans with heels, teeshirts with necklaces, etc.

Layering - Thanksgiving isn't just a sit down affair. As much as I'd like to leave the dishes or cooking to everyone else, it's not going to happen. I like to have plenty of layers (short sleeves & cardigans!) so I can stay comfortable in a hot kitchen.

This Thanksgiving I plan on wearing my go-to brown sweater, a peach H&M top, a brown belt blue, jeggings and my new brown boots. What will you wear?

Give Thanks- Thanksgiving Decorations

Melanie from You Are My Fave

Let's all resolve to freshen up our Thanksgiving decorations this year and drop the dated cornucopias and dowdy brown. I'm thinking a mix of deep purple, gold and green could be just the right thing to modernize the table. Not that your guests will really notice the decor since they'll be preoccupied by the food. Unless your gravy is lumpy of course.
