Give Thanks: Thanksgiving Style

Hello lovelies! It's Kristin from BonBon Rose Girls. I'm so excited to be visiting Whatever Dee Dee Wants to share my Thanksgiving style with you today! So, do you like to be uber comfy on Turkey Day or do you take a more formal approach and get all decked out? I fall somewhere in between. As the mama of a wild child four year old and a wiggly four month old, I need to be comfortable as I run around after the kiddos, but Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, so I try to look my best too!
Thanksgiving Comfort Outfit Details: here
This look is typical of something I would rock on Thanksgiving. The oversized sweater, skinnies and flats are mama appropriate, but still fun! Adding in some statement earrings and bold red polish takes it up a notch! So, that's the kind of style my fam can expect to see out of me this year. I would love to hear what kind of outfits you'll be wearing this Thanksgiving!

Spring Fling: Spring Fashion Trends

Hi there! I'm Jenni and I write a fashion blog called Found in My Closet.  I'm so excited to be contributing to Dianna's Spring Fling event!

With spring right around the corner there are so many new and continuing trends to pick from.  I'm always on the lookout for the season's latest and greatest items from all different places and thought I'd share a few items with you that I have either already added to my closet, or have my eye on for future consideration:

1. Colored Denim

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you know that this fun trend is carrying over from last year.  This spring, however, the new twist is that jeans are now coming in brighter, more fun colors than ever before!  I have personally jumped on the band wagon in a big way and have added a few more  pairs of colored jeans to my closet:

Jeggings in Pink from American Eagle

I have these and love them!  I sized up one size in these because I felt they ran a little small.
AG Legging Ankle Jeans in Sulfur Sun from Piperlime (can also be found at Anthropologie)
AG jeans are my all-time favorite so I have nothing but great things to say about these.  LOVE!!!

2. Stripes

I love stripes so I'm totally on board with this trend.  I haven't met too many stripes I don't love!

I love the sideways stripes on the top half and the horizontal stripes on the bottom.  It adds a little visual interest.  I plan on belting this cute top.

Cinch & Flow Maxi Chemise from Anthropologie
Some of my favorite type of stripes are Chevron stripes. I think I need more in my life. =)

3. Florals

Florals are huge this spring.  They come in every color, print and size.  I don't have a ton of floral in my closet so I'm looking to add a little more somehow this season.

Revolved Blooms Blouse from Anthropologie
Love the small floral print of this top and how the lace down the sleeves sets it apart from other floral tops.  So cute!

Cotton Cardigan in Overbloom Floral from J Crew

I really love the bold print of this cute cardigan...it definitely makes a statement!

4. Bold Wedge Sandals

I have a serious obsession with shoes.  Wedge sandals happen to be some of my favorite types of shoe.  I'm loving that bold colors on the feet are in this year...the more colorful the hue the better!

Steve Madden Veta Wedge Sandal from DSW

I happen to own these and adore the color.  It can be paired with so many things...cropped pants, maxi dresses, skirts...anything!

This color has caught my eye this season...it's so fun!  It's another color that could mix and match with so many others. Seychelles happens to be one of my favorite brand of shoes so this one may find a spot in my closet eventually.

5. The Statement Necklace

Jewelry is the cheapest way to spice up an outfit.  It can totally transform the look of an outfit.  Statement necklaces happen to be my very favorite piece of jewelry to buy and wear...there is just something about a beautiful eye-catching necklace that I can't resist!

Hollowed Harmonics Necklace from Anthropologie

This is bold, bright and so much fun!  Love this color...it can be paired with so much!

Tarn Necklace from Anthropologie

I adore this necklace so much. With all the colors this necklace has to offer you have options galore when pairing this pretty little gem with items in your closet.  This one will be finding it's way to my collection sooner than later.

Bahari Necklace from Stella & Dot
This necklace just looks so luxe and beautiful in the product shot.  Love it!

So what trends are you jumping on this season?  Anything you would absolutely NEVER try?  Anything you've tried and either loved or hated?  DO share!

Thanks for reading!

Happy Spring to you!!!

Spring Fling: Pastel Fashion

Kayla from Freckles in April

I was slightly dismayed to discover that pastels would be a big trend for spring. I'm not really a pastel-y person. It doesn't suit my coloring and there's something that feels very 90s-Easter-with-crimped-hair to me (probably because that's how I wore them last).

Despite my distaste for pastel hues, I've actually seen some pieces I would consider spending money on. Here are a few:
1. Marbled Marvel dress (Mod Cloth) -Some people like to claim that maxi dresses died in the middle of last year but I refuse to let them go. If it's comfy and hides the fact that I didn't shave my legs I will love it. This dress is flowy and springy but doesn't remind me of an Easter egg.

2. Pastel geo tank (Top Shop) - Crazy? Awesome? Crazy awesome. I love the print.

3. Perch Things First dress (Mod Cloth) -You can never go wrong with a pretty bird print and I really love the peachy color. With the right skin tone this would be drop-dead gorgeous.

4. Colored canvas shorts (Old Navy) - I'm not a pink person but I DO love colored pants and shorts. These would look super cute with a lot of things (including that Top Shop tank!).

5. Pastel color block tee (BTY) -I can always get behind color blocking and I love the shape of this tee. Very forgiving to post-baby tummies. It's pretty sheer, which means layering in the spring (if you're not into visible support garments) and maybe a really cool swimsuit cover-up come summer.

6. Ballerina flats (Chloe) - You'll die when you see the price tag but I am so in love with these (these aren't as beautiful but they are a tenth of the price)

Spring Fling: Pattern Mixing 101

Hello Friends!

This is S, one of the writers from the little blog The Pretty Life Anonymous, and we are so excited to be a part of the Spring Fling blog series here at Whatever Dee Dee Wants!

Spring is coming, and the weather is starting to perk up. Likewise, I'm sure your wardrobe is in need of a little sprucing, since, if you are anything like me, you have been draping yourself in way too much black and/or neutrals all winter and it's time to come out of fashion hibernation, meaning, bring on the color, patterns, and pizzazz!

So, today we are talking pattern mixing since it is a great way to start incorporating some brightness into your bleak winter-wear. Now, this may be a foreign concept for a lot of people, and it can take a lot of people out of their solid-color comfort zones. However, even though I don't claim to be an expert on the topic, I am going to ask you to give this trend a chance because it can be fun, and open your wardrobe up to a world of new possibilities. To help you ease into it, we made a super simple list of three rules to follow when mixing patterns in your wardrobe.

Rule #1 - Mix patterns that have similar color palettes
I like my outfits to make sense. I never want anyone to look at me and wonder why I put one item with another. By sticking with similar colors, even though the pieces have different patterns, they tie together (i.e. the browns and tans in both the shirt and skirt below).

Rule #2 - Mix one bold pattern with one subtle pattern
Mixing two bold patterns would be a little too much, while mixing two subtle patterns would be a little boring. Mixing a bold pattern with a subtle pattern gives a perfect balance and keeps the outfit interesting.

Rule #3 - Be confident
As far as I am concerned, you can wear whatever the heck you want as long as you feel good. So ignore the previous two rules if you want to. Just make sure to follow this one. Look good, feel good.

{shirt: Old Navy 9.99, skirt: Kim's Fashions gift, belt: TJ Maxx, 8.99, shoes: Ross 21.99}

I hope this helps you hesitant pattern-mixers out there. You can do it! And if you need a little something to make you brave, I hear girl scout cookies are for sale, and they can work wonders in the bravery department.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

10 Sexy Suits: Swimwear that Rocks the Cabana

When shopping for swimwear during 2012, you'll be met with what might seem like endless options. This year's suits feature a wide range of colors, patterns and styles – and you can mix and match depending on what's best for your body type.

When you step onto the beach, we want you to“wow”the ones around you, so we've put together a list of tips on finding a suit that will help you rock the cabana this summer:

  • Get extra oomph. If you're small chested, select a suit with a little bit of padding or enhancements on the top to give you a little boost. Finding a suit with adjustable straps will also prove helpful, as you can adjust it for a perfect fit.

  • Find the support you need. Large chested women need excellent support to keep them comfortable throughout the day. When shopping, look for a suit that features a shelf bra or padding. Or, opt for a tankini, which has several benefits. It offers great support, tummy coverage, and you can mix and match on the top and bottom pieces for a perfect fit.

  • Get ruched. A common feature you'll find on this year's suits is ruching. Whether you're looking for a one- or two-piece, ruching is used as a tummy minimizer and to add extra oomph to your top area. Depending on which look you're going for, it might be that little extra touch you need.

  • Mix and match. If you're short, mixing and matching patterns can be helpful in making you appear much taller. Choose a fun print for the top and a solid-colored bottom to draw other's eyes upward and make your body seem longer.

  • Go bold with animal print. One of the biggest trends on the runway this year is animal print with bold colors around the trim. If you're looking for something new and exciting, try out leopard or python print this beach season.

  • Use color blocking. One of the most slimming colors you can wear is black…and to make yourself seem even slimmer, dress up your suit with a belt or ribbon of another color. It'll provide a fashionable look and will help put attention where you want it…and away from the spots that you don't.

  • Love ruffles. If you want to appear a little bigger on top, look for a suit with ruffles on the top. They'll dress up the suit and help enhance your cleavage.

  • Stripes are in. Vertical stripes are in this year – both for their look and the fact that they can help make you appear taller and slimmer.

  • Be bold.  Some of the hottest colors this season are bold shades like coral, orange, and gold. Instead of going with the basic black, try out one of these to give yourself a little extra flare.

  • Get stunning with a sarong. After finding the perfect suit, consider adding a sarong to your attire. It's not only the perfect accessory, but can also hide problem areas or dress up a solid-colored suit.

And there you have it – some of the hottest suits and accessories for 2012. If you want to rock the beach this summer, don't leave home without this list.

Spring Fling- Anthropolgie Shirt Tutorial

my name is Sarah and i keep a blog over at Welcome to the gOOd life.
it's a diary written by me (and sometimes by my hilarious
husband) of the good and the ugly as a wife, a stay at home mom,
raising two kids under three-just a year apart, and also my weekly DIY
sewing projects.  besides chasing around/cleaning up after my two
kids all day long, i run an online store called S.T Collection where i sell
unique headbands/jewelry and clothes.

so should we get on to my DIY project?

inspiration: squeezebox top from anthropologie
picture from an anthropologie review blog.
i think i literally gasped when i saw this top online.  i
instantly fell in love and knew i had to have it!
i bought 2 white shirts, one in xs which is my size and one in
large.  i got the large shirt in round neck for more
fabric while i got the xs in a scoopneck.
you'll need:

2 shirts
scissors
matching thread
pins

estimated time: 1-2 hrs.
project cost: very reasonable(mine was $8 for both shirts)
skill level: advanced beginner to intermediate

1. take the large shirt and cut it into two pieces, a front and the
back piece.

2. cut the arms and the neckline off so it's closest to a rectangle shape.

3. take one of the piece and begin making the pleates.

4. (instruction written above)

5.

and then with the bottom pleated part

8.

9.

10.

11. oopsie, mispelling. it should be "along" instead of "aling". ;)
