It's Just Another Stylin' Sunday -Late

I made the big mistake of waiting to take Brody's picture until after church.
After being at church for three hours, not having a nap, wanting to play, needing to eat, not wanting to sit still, etc. Needless to say the pictures weren't all that great.

Brody loves having his picture taken. He says "cheese" and runs to the bench where I take his Stylin' Sunday pictures. Once he's there he just wants to play but the second I walk away he gets upset and starts saying "cheese" again. Silly boy!

A Peek Into My Family part 6

Random tidbits about my family from oldest to youngest.

Brad- Brad use to let me and Emily (my friend and his sister in-law) be his cocktail waitresses at his casino parties. I loved every second of it! Who knew you could make lots of tips from serving coke and sprite to a few people?

Brian- Moved to California when I was young. I thought he didn't have to work and got to visit Disneyland almost everyday.

Julie- She use to let me play beauty parlor in her basement hair salon when I was young. I am guessing she would still let me play if I really wanted to.

Jim- Use to dress up for school everyday in high school. I hear he even wore a seersucker suit.

Susie- she use to work at this cute kids clothing store, The Strawberry Patch. When I was little I got to be a model for one of their ads.

Todd- Got me a job at Talbots years and years ago. I ended up becoming a manager and worked there for over 6 years.

Laurie- worked at Wally's, the best doughnut shop ever! She use to bring me home doughnuts after her shifts. I miss that place.

Brent- was a great boss! I even got to see two movies during work because it was slow.

John - was an Olympic mascot during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Mary- wanted to work at Hot Dog on Stick in high school. She didn't understand why my friends and I laughed when she told us. We had to remind her about the uniforms.

Me- My favorite job I have ever had is being a mom!

Dali Decals

Recently I had the opportunity to try out a wall decal from Dali Decals.
Wall decals are such an easy and inexpensive way to decorate and bring a little personality into a room.
Dali Decals has a large selection of vinyl Decals, I had a hard time picking out which one I wanted to try. They also carry custom decals, wall murals and printed canvas.

My favorites are the nursery and monogram decals. I also love the chalk board decals.

The vinyl decals are really easy to install. They include instructions and a small tool to help you apply the decal.I love that Dali Decals are removable (just not reusable) so you won't ruin your walls when trying to remove them.

Dali Decals provided me with a free decal for this review.
All opinions are my own.

Boys Style

I love dressing up Brody for church each week.
Sometimes I think it's harder to find stylish dress clothes for boys than it is for girls but I think children stores have come a long way.

When it comes to dress clothes for Brody I usually lean towards the preppy side.
I love the mix of casual and  dressy. I love a good argyle vest or a pop of pink.
Boys need to stop being afraid to wear pink (that goes for men too).

What is your favorite dressy style for boys?

Winner!

The winner of the CSN Stores $50 gift card is

Tiffany

Book Review- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

This book I want to share with you is a quick, fun read.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Whew that's a long name!
The story is told mainly through a collection of letters post World War 2.
The main character, Juliet receives a letter from  a resident of Guernsey, an Island off the coast of England.
Juliet quickly becomes enchanted by the people of Guernsey and travels there to meet them, changing her life in many ways.

When I think of this book, the word charming comes to mind. I loved reading the letters and even felt inspired to write more letters myself. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters.
I know there are many reviews of this book floating around but I really enjoyed it and want to share it with you.

What books are you reading? Any recommendations for me?

Picnic

I always dream about going on a real picnic but I never end up going on one.
It probably has something to do with me not owning a picnic basket.

I think Brody would love a little picnic basket, we could walk to the park (when it warms up) and have our own little date. I could get a picnic basket for 2 or a picnic basket for 4 and we could bring some friends along.  Brody would love it!

1001 Picnic Baskets has a great selection of fun baskets and accessories. I even found these cool picnic barbecue sets. The bag actual contains a little portable propane grill. How cool is that?
It would be great to take on little camp-outs or  to a tailgate party.

Now I just need the warm weather.

One Question Interview

I asked a few of my favorite bloggers one question and here are there answers.

What’s your secret for a happy marriage?

Melissa from I Still Love You
TRUST & RESPECT one another. Chris & I trust and respect each other completely. He's my best friend & confident. There's no one in this world I trust more with my thoughts & feelings than Chris. I know he respects me, my opinions & my goals as I respect his. Communicating in a marriage can be so hard at times, but I feel like it's made worlds easier when I know that Chris will listen to what I have to say.

Amy from The Idea Room
Find something I can do everyday to make him feel special...whether it is doing his laundry or making his favorite meal or just leaving him a little note.  It doesn't have to take a lot of time.  One thing my friend did that I loved was she asked her husband what the three most important things for him when he gets home.  So I asked my husband the same question.  So now I try to make sure I have those three things done for him.  He in turn asked me the same thing.  Just a simple way to let them know you are thinking about them.

My secret to a happy marriage is to replace "me" with "we". I find that ironically enough I am the most unhappy is when I am only thinking about myself, what I want, what I need. When I stop and replace "me" with "we" I find a new and better perspective. A marriage is a two person deal so there really should be no more "me" only "we". Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't loose "yourself'" in your marriage, instead find ways that you can work together, supporting each other, cheering each other on, to reach your individual goals. Plus being part of a team is so much more fun!

I have to say that I think the #1 secret to a happy marriage is weekly date night. No matter how poor we were, we always made sure to get out together once a week. Sometimes it was just a trip to the grocery store. And sometimes it was something fantastic like a fancy dinner. Getting out once a week gave us a chance to focus on US, our relationship and get away from the distractions. It gave us a chance to keep the romance in our marriage. And I think that is so important.

Stephanie from Stephmodo
Several years ago a family member shared with me her tip for a happy marriage--it was a book actually.
She swears by the "His Needs/Her Needs" mentioned and given the success of her own marriage, I'd say this is a great place to start.

I personally swear by a twice monthly date night :)
One date to discuss kids and their needs--and another one just about us

Cassie from Hi Sugarplum
If I knew the guaranteed secret to a happy marriage, I'd be shouting it from the rooftops!
For us, it's about laughing at and with each other, being considerate, and remembering the other person is on your team and not out to get you (hence no reason to get defensive!)
And taking a trip every year without the kids works wonders too!

Jessica from Living the Swell Life
My big mantra is this: Love is a verb.  While it's fine and dandy to kiss and say "I love you,"  I feel like things run the smoothest when we actually put the other person first and demonstrate love in action.  For instance, today my sweet hubs swept all the floors in our house and did a load of laundry while I was out.  I hadn't asked him to do any of these things, I only expected him to watch our son.  He scored huge points for exceeding my expectations and lightening my housework load.  For us, it's essential to be attentive to the other person's needs, asking questions like "What can I do to help your day go smoother? Is there anything that would help you get out the door faster? What needs to get done around here?"  While it's not always easy to love unconditionally, and to love by serving, it's a whole lot easier when both parties take the responsibility {and joy!}  to heart.

Valentines Dinner at Home

Sometimes going out for Valentines is a pain!
It is such a busy night, why not stay home to celebrate?

Staying home doesn't mean a boring night in front of the TV.
Follow my guide to make it a special night.

Decor
Mix it up this year by decorating with pinks and a hint of blue. No red this year.
Use flower pom poms to decorate. Try hanging them above the table.

Find pink glass cups from your local thrift store and fill with pink and white candy.
The candy dishes can double as decorations.

Menu

Drinks
Fill the pink glasses with raspberry ginger ale. If you can't find it try regular ginger ale and add a few frozen raspberries.

Mixed green salad with poppy seed dressing
from Caroline.

Balsamic pork tenderloin.
Follow this recipe from Redhead Recipes.

Dessert

Finish off your night with a cold treat. These heart shaped ice cream sandwiches are a perfect choice.
You can make them the day before and freeze them until your ready to eat them.

See, that doesn't seem too hard does it?
You can have a fun, festive valentine date at home this year.

If you want more options check out this valentine dinner plan.

A Thrilling Valentine's Day

Do you have a hard time thinking of Valentine gift ideas for your husband or boyfriend?
I found the best valentines day presents for men.

Why not give him a thrilling gift for Valentines Day? What guy wouldn't love a tank ride? or the chance to drive a race car?

Adrenalin offers you the chance to do these fun activities.
They have a huge list of exciting adventures to choose from.

Adrenalin is based in Sydney Australia, so husbands (and boyfriends) take your sweetheart to Sydney for Valentines Day and then she can surprise you with Valentines Day presents you will love

I personally would love the trapeze lesson. Doesn't that sound fun?
